There is nobody out there who can replace Kovalchuk.

Sign Brunner, Henrique and Grabovski/Raymond. Don't know the figures, but you could also look to trade Volchenkov's contract.

Well i dont see why Brunner hasnt signed there yeat unless he wants an outrageous amount. he had an OK year and NJ cleary has cap space now, a semi short deal 2-3 years is acceptable as long as he isnt asking for 3.5+

IMO i think they should go after Brunner AND grabo, if they can get both for around 7-8 mil a year, that would help them significantly up front

I also think Penner may be a decent pick up for them, also dependant on how much he expects to be paid but i suppose thats why all decent UFA havent signed yet

Both of these would be awful signings. The UFA crop was not good this season, and that coupled with Kovy's departure makes this a brutal offseason for the Devils. But don't go spending money just for the sake of spending. That's how teams really dig themselves into holes. No, the Devils don't look good on paper, but after almost 20 years of consistency it was bound to happen sooner or later. When Marty, Zidlicky, and Volchenkov come off the books next season we'll have some serious cap room to use if necessary. I'm just tired of everyone saying, "sign this guy, sign that guy."
